Team Spirit Win The International 2026 After Five-Game Final
Team Spirit defeated Team Vision 3:2 in Shanghai to win The International 2026, completing a lower-bracket run and lifting the Aegis after a one-hour deciding game.
Team Spirit complete a difficult road to the Aegis
Team Spirit are the champions of The International 2026. The Dota 2 team defeated Team Vision 3:2 in a five-game grand final in Shanghai, ending a tournament run that repeatedly pushed the eventual winners to the edge.
The final was a rematch with the opponent that had already beaten Spirit twice during the event. Team Vision first denied them a direct route out of the group stage and later sent them to the lower bracket. Spirit answered when the title was on the line, winning the deciding fifth game after an hour of play.
A strong start turned into an elimination test
Spirit opened the group stage with 2:0 victories over Xtreme Gaming and Aurora Gaming, then beat Team Liquid 2:1. That left the team one match away from securing its place on the main stage. Instead, consecutive 0:2 defeats against Team Vision and Nigma Galaxy forced Spirit into the elimination round.
Team Resilience made that match uncomfortable. Spirit won the first game, lost the second and had to decide its tournament life on a third map. Resilience stayed close during the opening half, but Spirit took control later and secured the final place on the main stage.
The result became the turning point of the campaign. Spirit had survived its first win-or-go-home series and entered the arena with no room for another mistake.
Team Vision send Spirit to the lower bracket
Spirit began the main event by defeating Iron Wing 2:0. The next series brought another meeting with Team Vision, and the group-stage pattern continued. Vision won 2:1 and dropped Spirit into the lower bracket.
From that point, Spirit did not lose another series. They swept Team Liquid 2:0, then recorded two more 2:0 victories against BoomBoys and Team Yandex. Three straight wins carried them into the grand final and created a third meeting with Team Vision.
That lower-bracket run was built on consistency rather than one sudden upset. Spirit won six consecutive games before the final and eliminated opponents that had already shown strong form in Shanghai.
The grand final goes all five games
Spirit controlled the first game of the final, but Team Vision responded in game two. Spirit moved ahead again at 2:1 before Vision forced the series to a fifth map.
The deciding game lasted roughly one hour and remained open until the final phase. Spirit eventually broke the deadlock, completed the 3:2 victory and became the only team to beat Vision in a match during the tournament.
The win also changed the players' individual records. Larl became a two-time world champion, while Yatoro and Collapse won The International for the third time. Not_me and rue lifted the Aegis for the first time.
Team Spirit's winning roster
The International 2026 champions competed with:
- Ilya "Yatoro" Mulyarchuk
- Denis "Larl" Sigitov
- Magomed "Collapse" Khalilov
- Alexey "not_me" Kosmynin
- Aleksandr "rue" Filin
The combination mixed players with extensive championship experience and two first-time winners. That balance was visible in the final: Spirit recovered after every Vision response and stayed composed through the longest game of the series.
Why the 2026 title matters
Spirit's victory was not a straightforward favorite's run. The team lost four games without reply across its two early series against Vision and Nigma Galaxy, survived an elimination match and then had to win three lower-bracket series before the final.
Beating Vision in the championship match gave the run a clear conclusion. Spirit overcame the team responsible for both of its earlier setbacks and did so in the only series where a single loss would have ended the campaign.
The Aegis now carries the names of Yatoro, Larl, Collapse, not_me and rue. For Team Spirit, The International 2026 becomes another major chapter in the organisation's Dota 2 history and one of the most demanding championship paths of the event.
